April 10 - 15, 1912 … the voyage of Titanic!
April 14&15, 2012 … a two-day event to respect, remember and reflect
upon those who sailed on the iconic liner and to honor Elizabeth Barrett Rothschild, a
Watkins Glen native and Titanic survivor, as well as other local families whose lives
were impacted on that fateful day in 1912.
A steadfast group of area aficionados, dedicated to memorializing and remembering
Titanic, has planned a three-day slate of activities that will reflect upon the most
famous of ocean voyages.
The Festival Committee is now soliciting sponorships from area companies and
businesses so that a full slate of activities can fill the two days.
Current plans call a Titanic Film Festival at the Glen Theater, and a Titanic Festival
self-guided Tour of the Rothschild property and mausoleum. A Gala Dinner at
Watkins Glen’s Harbor Hotel will be Saturday’s highlight. Sunday will offer an All
Faith Church Service, a final and appropriate conclusion to a weekend filled with
remembrances and historical reflections.
To date (November, 2011) we have secured sponsorship to hold the gala dinner at the
Watkins Glen Habor Hotel. The Titanic Dinner presented by Glenora Wine Cellars
will be held on Saturday evening, April 14, 2012 - 100 years to the day that the last
meals were served on Titanic. More information on the dinner can be seen here.
Appropriately, the Schuyler County Historical Society will be the beneficiary of all
proceeds of the Festival.
