Alta B Day [More Info]

We gets lots of inquiries about our Alta B wines "What does the name mean?" and Alta B Day in general - "When was the first & why did we start it?" Alta B Day is our annual celebration in memory of owner & founder Bill Wagner's mother, Alta Button Wagner. The first Alta B Day was held in July of 1980, as Alta's 83rd birthday party. Alta was the guest of honor at an old-time party celebrating the slower-paced days of her girlhood. She and her husband Stanley arrived in a horse-drawn surrey dressed in the costume of their courtship days.When asked how our Alta wines received their name; Bill recounts this story. "It was suggested many times during the planning of the winery to have a red wine with some sweetness to pour in the tasting room. We put together several samples of red wine with varying degrees of sweetness, took them to this little old lady and asked her to choose her favorite. She did, and we made the entire lot to her liking and named it in her honor: Alta B. That lady just happened to be my mother."
